Homework Break!

A better week - - not nearly as intense, but still, busy!

I'm soooo tired! I've been staying up waaaaaaay too late, reading a book I got this week: The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill which is published as "Someone Knows My Name" in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Because I've been such a bad girl, I'm sitting on my bed surrounded by textbooks, and one small cat. No sewing for me this week!

....took the weekend off

This week was intense!!! An essay, a class presentation, and two exams. When I caught my breath, and took a look at this week's assigned reading - - all 318 pages of boring text book stuff - - I decided to go on strike.

I spent the better part of today sewing. I put a border on this:

I'm going to add another wider, pieced border to it.

And I finished all the courthouse steps blocks for this:

The pattern called for 45 courthouse blocks, and now I have to sew the star blocks. 44 to go!

And then I sewed the binding down on this:

It still needs the binding to be handstitched to the back, but it's a step closer to being done.

Okay - I guess I could get a bit of reading done now.

I just had to sew a few seams....

Remember that Courthouse Stars workshop I went to way back in September? Until today...I only had ONE block complete!!! Now I have ELEVEN! okay...so only about another 110 or so to go.

Miss me???

Ya - - I'm missing blogs and blogging....not to mention quilting!

It's going to be a few more weeks before I begin to see a glimmer at the end of the tunnel too. Next week I have two exams, a presentation to give, and an essay outline to hand in - - oh yeah, and the regular couple hundred pages of reading to do.

EVERY body at school is sick. There's a real icky flu thing running rampant. So far, I'm infection free...I have me some kick ass kinda immunity!!!..but even the profs have been sick.

Itty Bitty News

Good ole Itty Bitty...he puts up with a lot having ME for a mother. Thankfully, he has my wicked sense of humour, so he gives as good as he gets.

I took him to a lecture this morning, which was two hours of H-E-double hockey sticks!! sooooo boring......... ugh!

I introduced him all around, and I'm sure he'll not forget the experience soon. He got to put some faces to all the characters that I talk about every day.

So here's some recent conversations with Itty Bitty...

(Scene: me, waking up from a 2 hour nap)
ITTY BITTY: Wow, that was some kind of nap you had
ME: Yeah, cool eh? Hey, how come you never nap? Naps seriously RAWK!!!!!
ITTY BITTY: Carpe diem, mom. Sieze the day.

(scene: in the car, me singing along to Lynyrd Skynyrd at the top of my lungs)
ME: Now they call you Prince Charming!!! can't speak a word when you're full of 'ludes!!! ...huh, you don't even know what 'ludes are, do you?
ITTY BITTY: Quaaludes.
ME: Excuse me? I think I just told you that YOU DON'T KNOW!!!!!
ITTY BITTY: Fine....what's a lude, mom?
ME: (singing again) Ooooh that smell !!! Can't you smell that smell??? Ooooh that smell!!! The smell of death surrounds you!!!

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE my BSW cohorts???

Social work students are amazing people. Every day I learn more about how wonderful human beings can be, as evidenced by the people I sit in class with everyday. I LOVE SCHOOL!!!! Can I stay in 3rd year forever?!?!?!
OH! And the candy apples were a huge hit today. They were snapped up immediately, and I've been mandated to bring in another batch next Thursday for another bake sale.

I stand corrected...

Natural childbirth was easier than making candy apples - - well...at least the labour was shorter!!!

I very nearly threw the first batch out. See...I got this idea that I should put them on wax paper to cool.

This is NOT correct. Don't do this.

The wax from the wax paper stuck to the apples - sorta melted it to it. UGH!!!! But Hubby stopped me from tossing the whole bunch, we thought about it for a minute, and decided to try "burnishing" the bottoms of the apples with a hot wet cloth, and that fixed them right up! The second batch went much better - - this time I sprayed the cookie sheet with cooking spray.

Speaking of Hubby .. neither one of us can EVER remember our wedding date. I usually keep it narrowed down to somewhere between the 7th and the 10th....but I'm never sure. We got married on Thanksgiving weekend 2000.

I woke him up this morning - - and we snarled at each other for a few minutes - - trying to get some paper work done....I was running late....I didn't have a good night in the first place....a little stressed out....and the dumb ass insisted on suggesting that I....I?....I was GRUMPY!!!!!

The snarling continued until I was just about to head out the door, and I caught sight of the champagne glasses from our wedding in the china cabinet, with the wedding date engraved on them.

Happy Anniversary sweetheart!

....so there's a bake sale at school on Thursday

I joined the Social Action Committee at school, and one of the events we are planning is a bake sale in support of LUSO and their 1000 Acts of Kindness campaign.

I spent a good chunk of my afternoon class trying to decide what I could make, that wouldn't take FOREVER, but would still be really good. Suddenly, a scathingly brilliant idea popped into my brain!

ME: I've got it!
CLASSMATE: What?
ME: I'm going to make candy apples for the bake sale!
CLASSMATE: Oh...that's gooooooood. Uh...have you ever made them?
ME: No.
CLASSMATE: Uh...do you feel pretty confident that you CAN???
ME: I have passed entire human beings through my vagina. I can do ANYTHING!!!

So, Itty Bitty and I went to the Bulk Barn and got a kit to make candy apples. The instructions looked pretty simple. .....much easier than natural childbirth, anyway.

Sewing....but just a smidge

I promised myself that I would spend a little time sewing this morning, since I haven't sewn a stitch since last Sunday afternoon with Gail. I've got to add some borders to this yet. I'm thinking a 1.5" light border, then a very wide piano key border.

I'm afraid I have to get back to my homework - waaahaaaahaaa!!!

What....no photos???

Ya - true

Been soooo swamped. I have one bazillion assignments all slamming me at once, and the regular weekly reading has not diminished one bit.

I've learned soooo much this week! I wish I had time to tell you about it ~ LOL!!!

Besides school? Well, I'm teaching Gibby kitty English.

ME: Who's a pretty boy? Who's a pretty boy?
GIBSON: Me!
ME: Who wants ice cream, huh? Who wants some ice cream!
GIBSON: Me!

This cat is a freakin' genius.
