Schusterjungs - ever have one?

I came home at lunch today, and quickly tossed a beef stew together in a roasting pan, and put it in the oven on a very low temperature, and let it simmer the afternoon away.  I imagined how terrific some dumplings would be with it, but remembered that a new bakery opened right next door to us yesterday!

It's called GBS - German Baked Specialties Ltd. and we got to taste some samples before deciding on taking home Schusterjungs (which the German baker told us meant 'shoemaker boys').  But before we were able to leave, she mentioned that she had an onion baguette that just came out of the oven, and offered us a taste - - ohhhh...it smelled and tasted so good! - - and we were able to purchase just a half of a baguette.  I'm glad we took a chance on the bakery over dumplings (although dumplings are good too) - schusterjungs are a great compliment to homemade stew.

I happened to mention "Downton Abbey" yesterday - and my sister shared a link to a blog which is hosting an "Unofficial Downton Abbey Cookbook" giveaway.  To enter, you have to leave a comment, answering the question "who is your favourite Downton Abbey character?"  Need a reminder of the characters?
