If I work fast....this could be a July finish!

I spent last evening making a mile of binding for my Sailor Boy's quilt, and the morning sewing it to the front.  If I work really fast hand stitching the binding down to the back, I could count this as a finish for this month.

Remember what it looks like?

I'm on holidays this week.  No big plans - we're having a 'staycation' in order to accommodate some appointments, chores and to-do's.  I would like to play with some ideas for small projects that I've 'pinned' on Pinterest though!

Miss me?

I haven't been doing much sewing.
I've become addicted to Mad Men

All of my spare time has been stuck, glued to the television catching up on six seasons on netflix.

But I did go out of doors today to do a little thrifting! I found all kinds of handy notions, a bag full of velcro ($1), another full of self cover buttons, D-rings, snaps ($1), another baggie of thread ($.50), some zippers ($.50), a bag full of good quality quilting scraps ($2) (most of which I can use from my Granny Square quilt that I've been cutting for)

I had to push Gibson's gut off to show you the glass frog. ($2) These are so handy for holding pens and tools.  I can't use them for flowers - Gibson eats flowers.

And then I found this quilt pattern! ($1) It's so cute!  I wish I had a little girl to make this for.  I can see it all done in 30's reproductions.

Weekend work

Aunt Mary's Favourite is the latest Grandmother's Choice BOW. Only four more to go!

Next, I completed a couple more Dear Jane blocks, and started on a third. These are getting harder and harder!  I am just going to have to suck it up and plough through the remaining blocks.  Unfortunately, I left the most complicated blocks for the very end.

I made a total of three iPod/iPhone/mp3 player thingies this weekend.

On Friday, Hubby and I made a trip 'home' - I had a doctor's appointment. A trip home means a stop into the local fabric store, where they sell ziploc baggies full of fabric samples for a dollar.  I always pick up some to add some colour and texture to my stash for next to nothing.  Here's a selection of some of the fabrics that I liked the best:

I made another thing!

I recently saw on Marie Bostwick's facebook page a picture of a little pouch she had made to hold her mp3 player.  As soon as I saw it, I 'shared' it on my page, to save the inspiration.  Sailor Boy's gf commented on it, saying she needed one too!  So here's what I've come up with.

I made this to the measurements of her piece of technology, but this is my iPod inside it.

Instead of heading to the fabric store to find the hardware, I just went downstairs to the Dollar Store, and picked up a lanyard and a key chain, and Frankensteined the metal parts.

I am making another one now, to see if I can perfect the technique.  The second one, I increased the width of the 'lanyard' piece by half an inch.  I'll be sizing this next one for my own iPod.  It's nearly done, but I need some more hardware.

Slacking...

I haven't sewn a stitch since Canada Day.

THAT particular day, I spent much of the afternoon simply "playing" with scraps, ultimately creating some "slabs" for:

These next two photos are completely WRONG - the colours are actually turquoise, not blue.  I tried manipulating the photos in Picassa, but it didn't help.
