Love Blooms Here - Slow Sunday Stitching

The newest issue of Quiltmaker includes the 1st of 6 parts of a new series called "Love Blooms Here".  I quite like it - but when I saw the quilt in batiks, rather than "folk art calico", I was sold!

So last night I pieced together the little friendship star blocks, and today I am hand appliqueing the basket block.  Here's a little confession: I have a drawer full of batiks, but I have NEVER made a single thing with batik fabric.  I think there is plenty of fabric there to complete this project.

  1. I am making mine with wool felt, but not flannel. I am trying to use what I have in my stash. I look forward to seeing your progress!

  4. I renewed my subscription for the rest of this one. I think I am going to use the basket block as a medallion in my hexie quilt. I just wish there were more hours in the day. Looks like you have a great start on yours.

  7. I have never worked with batiks either. The quilt is striking and your first block is bright and cheery.

  8. Just renewed my subscription to Fons and Porter only to see several e-mails that would have included Quiltmaker. How can I get in on that-this quilt is wonderful.

  9. That's exactly how I felt. I was interested when I saw the first picture, but when I saw the batiks I was sold. Love it and hope to start it soon. Great take along applique project with batik and wool!!

  10. I love the look of the batiks but I have tried them on applique and found them difficult. but they don't seem to fray so there is a trade off. I will be watching your progress. I loved that pattern as well. I am keeping all the issues.
