"Louisa", "Anne", and TWO "Lucy"s -- all the girls were here!

I spent a pleasant day with a Moda Jelly Roll in the "Louisa" collection, my Janome "Lucy", listening to "Anne of the Island" by Lucy Maude Montgomery.

So far, I've gotten the centre part done of Roslyn Mirrington's recipe at Moda Bake Shop.

Wendy (you naughty girl you!) got me hooked on LMM last summer, and if I'm not completely senile yet, I think it was she who got me hooked on Librivox.org too, where I downloaded both "Anne of Avonlea" and "Anne of the Island" to listen to while I sewed.

What I like about the LMM books, although initially intended for a much younger reader than I, is the words! Listening to her stories is like listening to music.  If you are looking for some "company" while you sew, I strongly recommend you download either of these from Librivox.

And speaking of words, I'd like to mention a new favourite podcast that I recently stumbled upon: A Way With Words.  Each program is nearly an hour long, and discusses neologisms, slang, grammar, old sayings, word origins, regional dialects, family expressions, and speaking and writing well.

  1. sorry Nancy, but you could be hooked on worse things..lol. I love the audio books for sewing days. Killing 2 birds with one stone in a very enjoyable way. I do agree with you about LMM's writing...you really don't need a picture to go with it, because her words give you the complete picture/idea. Gotta love librivox too. I will be checking out your recommendation too...away with words has gotten my attention. I often say I cannot imagine a world without the written word. If I lived closer to town I have often thought I would like to volunteer at something; and I am sure that something would be helping adults to learn to read. A good book can take you so many places...I just returned from PEI and went to see the LMM home again and enjoyed reading excerpts of her books all along the places she so often spoke about in her journals. Very pleasant.

  4. LMM will never let you down.......one book is better than the next. I was so sad when i finished everything she has written.
It is such a treat to sit at the machine and have a book playing.....I also listen while hand sewing out on my screen porch....one of the joys of summer:0).

I'll check out your other recommendations too.

    Happy Sewing

  6. Beautiful quilt, Nancy--as always! I'm so glad you found "A Way With Words." I'm very fortuante to be able to listen to it over Wisconsin Public Radio, in my opinion, the BEST public radio station I've ever found! You can find it here: http://wpr.org/webcasting/live.cfm
Check out some of the other programming, such as "Chapter a Day," "Talk of the Nation," and "On the Media." There's a lot more--this station is my constant companion when I'm sewing.
